2007 Spirit of Freedom Visit
The C-54 "Spirit of Freedom" arrived at the
Pitt-Greenville Airport at 9:25 Monday morning. Chapter members Monty
Clark, Marilee Kinahan and Rick Jones were there to welcome the crew
along with Stuart Dillon and Ladd Maxson from Dillon's Aviation. Once
everything was buttoned up Pilots Tim Chopp and Bill Starr picked up a
rental car and headed back to New Jersey. Tim drove back down
Thursday and his loadmaster Bill Morrissey flew into PGV the same day
from Indy on US Airways. Member Rick Jones happened to run into Bill
in Charlotte while returning from a business trip so they flew to
Greenville together. Follow this LINK to read more and see some
pictures.
Friday morning started a little wet but nobody could complain because
we needed the rain so badly. After moving the plane closer to the gate and
setting up the tents, two bus loads of school kids showed up for the tour. Each
day provided a steady stream of visitors. On Sunday C54 pilot Scott Hinton flew
over from Elizabeth City to man the right seat later that day. A Coast Guard
C130 followed him over and shot a few approaches at PGV.

Berlin Airlift C-54 Is Coming
Thanks to the hard work of some chapter members, the Douglas C-54
"Spirit of Freedom" is coming to Greenville. The
Berlin Airlift
Historical Foundation will be bringing their C-54 to Greenville the week
of October 22nd. On Friday October 26th through Sunday the 28th the
public will be allowed to walk through this flying museum. A $3 donation is requested. This has been made possible with the help of our
chapter and some generous sponsors. This special piece of history will
be parked on the south ramp at
Dillon's
Aviation. Please find the attached
poster,
flyer and
sponsor
insert. You can print these out and pass them on to friends.
