15th Annual Fly-In
September 25, 2004

by Rick R. Jones

Saturday morning brought great weather with the exception of a low broken cloud cover. Enough of that burned off by 10:00 to start giving rides. The drive-in crowd was a little lower than normal this year but the fly-in crowd really showed up. There was concern that the Wilson Breakfast Fly-In would hurt our turn out but we had several to fly in after visiting our Wilson neighbors.

We had chili and hot dogs for lunch and it was great. The cooks worked hard starting the chili from scatch early in the morning after cooking breakfast for the volunteers. The rest of the volunteers finished preparing the grounds for our visitors.

600HP AgTractor one minute ultralight the next. Wayne ferries an ultralight for a friend the day before the fly-in.

This gentleman was an ole Cessna guy that always wanted a Taylorcraft ride. Frank was excited to give him that ride long awaited ride.

Young Mr. Tamvakis gets his first J-3 ride. His little sister was to small for the belts. He told mom that they were to small for him too but when he saw her expression he quickly gave her a hug and said they fit good. Smart guy!

Hilton Carson takes it all in. This young man tells him all about life while they wait their turn to depart.

The light planes arrived as well. There is a Minimax, Savannah and two Challegers in this line. The Challengers zoomed in from around Fayetteville.

Covering all the bases with an RV6A, two Cessnas, a Breezy, and two RV4's.

This 300HP Harmon Rocket gave us a show upon arrival and again on departure with lots of speed and smoke. We even saw a few rolls after he reach altitude.

The Carolina's chapter of the Shortwing Piper Club was well represented. Two of the Tri-Pacers came in from Charlotte.

Taft managed to get the cute ones in that slick Diamond Eclypse.

There was a low broken cloud cover early on. Taft took this shot of Tim on their way over from Dillons Aviation. Thanks again to Stuart Dillon and company for providing some time on his planes.

Mr. 800,000th Young Eagle pilot, Tim Woolard, takes another happy young man for a ride aloft.

Bill Hood and wife departing in that fun Breezy. They told me they have spotted as many as 35 black bear in one day while flying around Jones county on late afternoons with the breezy.
