Farmville Chapter Members Head South
For Sun'n Fun 2003

Several of our members headed south this year for Sun'n Fun. It's a big place so I wasn't able to get everybody together in one spot for a group photo. We'll have to do a better job next year and set a meeting place and time for a quick photo.

Here's the one small group that I was able to get a photo of. From left to right are John Potter, Charles Lewis, George Tomvakis, Rick Jones, Tim Jones and Phil Vick. The powered parachutes can be seen flying in the background.

John Potter and his family pictured at the Ison Aircraft tent where his Minimax was showcased.

John, Potter, a proud homebuilder, moves his plane back to the tie down after a fellow Minimax owner flies it at Paradise City.

A Grumman Bearcat coming to life.

F4U Corsair returns after the war bird show.

This is a 1918 (1909 design) French Bleriot. The pilot is climbing out after running the original Gnome engine. This is not a reproduction but an original with only 5% of the materials replaced during the restoration (mostly fabric). They actually flew this historic plane during the show! It's likely the oldest plane in the world still flying.

A shot of the Bleriot cockpit. The Bleriot uses wing warping for roll control. You can see the wings trailing edge wires pass through a pully on the king post.

Phil and I couldn't tare ourselves away from the auto engine conversions. To the left of Phil is the Corvair engine expert William Wynn.

Corvair auto engine conversion set up on the test stand.

How about a radial engine for your project. This prototype was run daily along with the Harley Davidson and auto engine conversions.

A nice sunset at Paradise City with a final approach full of ultralights.

Here is a list of the chapter folks who attended this year. If I missed you please let me know and send me your interesting Sun'n Fun photos.

Attendees:
Tom Riggs, Louis Branch, Wes Banks, Frank Coburn, Dick Balzer and his youngest daughter, Tom and Sandi Saccio, John Potter and family, George Tamvakis, Charles Lewis, Rick Jones and father Tim Jones, Phil Vick.
